WrestleMania Reading Challenge 2012

Have you signed your library up for the 2012 WrestleMania Reading Challenge? If not, get on that! It’s free, and you receive posters, bookmarks, other giveaways, and a support kit. It is an easy program to use to reach some teens who might not be on your radar. You must register by July 31st, so you don’t have much time left. Get going!

WWE also has a page about the Reading Challenge that you can reference to promote it to your teens.

The First YALSA Board Fellow

I am so excited to have been selected to be the first YALSA Board Fellow! Here is the ALA press release. My position starts in June, and runs through July, 2013. This feels like it will be especially interesting since the position is new. I look forward to everything I will learn and experience in the coming year and a half.

ALA Annual 2011 New Orleans Recap – Part 2

Part 2 of my experience at ALA Annual 2011 in New Orleans. Part 1 can be found here. One thing I forgot about Saturday: I ended up at the cooking stage in the exhibit hall and was able to see Kevin Zraly speak about wine and wine tasting.

He was very entertaining and educational without being any sort of wine-snob. I loved it! One thing he said that I found interesting: 90% of all wine is drunk by 10% of the population. They ran out of his books so the publisher said she would send me one. I hope she follows through!

ALA Annual 2011 New Orleans Recap – Part 1

ALA Annual 2011 was the first time I have attended Annual outside of Washington D.C. I’m so glad I was able to do so. I had a great time, although I also experienced some frustrations. Here is a recap of what I did – or tried to do – after the cut.

Home from ALA 2011 – with a cold

I am home from ALA Annual 2011! I loved New Orleans, and will post soon about the conference and the city. Right now, I am recovering from a terrible cold that came home with me, so I need to get over that before I can string a few sentences together.

Where I’ll Be at ALA Annual 2011

Will you be in New Orleans this weekend? I will! I’m looking forward to attending; this is the first Annual I will attend that is not in D.C. I’ve never been to NOLA and have always wanted to go. I know that the end of June is not the best time to be there when you are a cold weather-loving gal like myself, but I’m still excited!

Last year, I had a very firm schedule due to my Local Arrangements commitments, but this year my schedule is much more fluid. Here is what I know I plan to attend:

12:30 – 4:30 – YALSA pre-con Give Them What They Want

5:30 – Exhibits open!

10:00 – 12:00 – YALSA Strategic Planning session

6:00 – YALSA’s Happy Hour

8:00 – The YA Blogger Meet Up

9:00 – 10:00 am – YA Author Coffee Klatch

10:30 am – The Beekman Boys at the What’s Cooking Stage – I loooove the Beekman Boys and will have a few long-overdue posts about them post-Annual.

10:30 am – I’m presenting! Reading & Wrestling: Think Outside the Box to Reach Today’s Teens – author Paul Volponi and wrestler Sgt Slaughter (last minute change) the Mouth of the South will also be speaking! Wish me luck!

8:00 pm – Printz!

Please say hi if you see me!
