Kreativ Blogger Award

Wow, thank you, Cathy!  Cathy at Words World and Wings has awarded me (along with 9 others) the Kreativ Blogger award!

The award has some rules:

1) Copy the picture and post it on your blog.
2) Thank the person that gave it to you and link to their blog.
3) Write 7 things about yourself we don’t know.
4) Choose 7 other bloggers to pass the award to.
5) Link to those 7 other bloggers.
6) Notify your 7 bloggers.

So, let’s see, 7 things about me that you won’t know.  I’m going to assume that you, the reader, is someone who does not know me well.

1. I like to laugh, and I am often told I have a great laugh.  My dear friend Kathy describes it as “bells and butterflies” and more than one person has told me it is infectious.

2. I love mittens and refuse to ever wear gloves.  Recently, I’ve had a hard time finding decent mittens, though.  For some reason, companies are making these faux-mittens that look like mittens, but when you stink your hand inside, the fingers are separated like gloves.  I don’t understand the thinking behind these.  Mittens allow your fingers to keep each other warm, whereas gloves give you the freedom of individual fingers but each finger must keep itself warm.  So why get rid of the freedom of gloves, but still keep your fingers separated so they cannot keep each other warm?  I also don’t like fleece or knit mittens because I feel like the wind comes through both materials easily.  So, I’m picky about my mittens.

3. While living in New York City, I fell in love with salt bagels.  These are hard to find in my area now, and it is one of the few things I miss about NYC.

4. I love ghosts and ghost stories and have had several spooky encounters.  Despite this, I have never actually SEEN a ghost and would prefer to keep it that way.

5. The earliest career goal I remember having was to be a professional reader.  No one had the heart to tell me that no one would ever pay me to sit around and read all day without doing additional work.

6. I would rather be cold than hot.  This seems to put me in opposition with most members of my gender.

7. Grey, rainy, cool days are my favorite, although I’ll take any rain I can get.  I find it comforting and cleansing.  I feel closer to the Earth, both the ground and the green things and the atmosphere and the ocean.  Whether curled up in a cozy place, driving, sitting under a porch, walking with or without an umbrella – I love all of it.

Thank you again to Kathy!  My pick for the next 7 bloggers will be coming ASAP!

Teaser Tuesdays – If I Stay

teasertuesdays2

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

The hatch in the helicopter is opened, and my stretcher with all its tubes and lines is loaded in. I climb in behind in.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

I’m only 39 pages into this, so I had to pick a teaser from what I had read already. I thought this was a good one – why would someone be climbing into a helicopter BEHIND the stretcher, not on it, if it seems to belong to them?

Booking Through Thursday – Windfall

btt21

Today’s question:

Yesterday, April 15th, was Tax Day here in the U.S., which means lots of lucky people will get refunds of over-paid taxes.

Whether you’re one of them or not, what would you spend an unexpected windfall on? Say … $50? How about $500?

(And, this is a reading meme, so by rights the answer should be book-related, but hey, feel free to go wild and splurge on

anything you like.)

Well, the realistic answer is windows, which is what we are using our return to (partially) pay for this year. (Being installed this Saturday – yay!) My dream answer would be to buy another Ikea Billy bookcase to add to my growing collection so I can properly shelve the books I have run out of room for. Any money left over would be spent on some of the books I am DYING to read (specifically If I Go and the new Columbine book) AND to also pay for me to attend the ALA conference this summer which I am currently not attending.

What about you?

Teaser Tuesdays – Speak

teasertuesdays2

I thought I’d join another book meme for the first time! Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I am probably one of the last people in the world to finally be reading Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak, but I started it today. So here are two lines:

This closet is abandoned-it has no purpose, no name. It is the perfect place for me.

It’s really good so far, but that shouldn’t be a surprise.

Booking Through Thursday

btt21

I need to write a review for Something, Maybe (LOVED it!) but really wanted to start participating in one of the book blogging memes. I thought today was as good a day as any to do Booking Through Thursday!

Some people read one book at a time. Some people have a number of them on the go at any given time, perhaps a reading in bed book, a breakfast table book, a bathroom book, and so on, which leads me to…

  1. Are you currently reading more than one book?
  2. If so, how many books are you currently reading?
  3. Is this normal for you?
  4. Where do you keep your current reads?

1. Not at the moment. I actually just finished one and need to figure out what to read next. I brought an enormous bag of books home from work for break and haven’t even made a dent in it yet, and break is almost over! I think it’s going to be Kiss Me, Kill Me. I have a few books I started earlier in the year and haven’t gone back to, but I’m not counting them because when I go back, I’ll have to start over again to remember what I read.

2. N/A

3. No, I am always in the middle of a book, but I do tend to only read one book at a time. I also have several magazine subscriptions and those I tend to pick up and put down and carry with me for quick reads, so I do juggle different print types, but tend to read just one book.

4. On my nightstand is where they usually live, but they might also end up in my bag, my coffee table, or my car.
