Not all of these were released in 2008, but if this was the first year I read it and I loved it, I’m including it. These are in no particular order:
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
- The President’s Daughter series by Ellen Emerson White – I loved the whole series and can’t pick just one
- Little Brother by Cory Doctorow
- Unwind by Neal Shusterman
- Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer – I also really liked The Dead and the Gone, but nothing compares to reading Life the first time and being worried and anxious about the characters and what might happen
- The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson
- Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway
- The Luxe and Rumors by Anna GodbersenÂ
- Tweak by Nic Sheff
- Paper Towns by John Green
Honorable mention goes to In the Woods by Tana French. It’s FANTASTIC, but since it’s an adult novel, it was hard to include it in this top ten.
Love the site! I’m a high school English teacher trying to read a ton of YA lit this summer. I’ve already plowed through most of the recommendations from our school librarian, so it’s great to get some new ideas. I actually found the site looking for an update on Tweak, which I just finished today. I found the CNN article a great follow-up.
